Weiser’s track and field teams compete in the Middleton Invite

Weiser varsity boys and girls track teams travelled to Middleton for a meet on April 8.
The Middleton Vikings hosted the meet with 20 teams competing. Several of the Weiser athletes posted personal record times. The Weiser girls ended the day in fourth place with 74.1 points and the boys took sixth place with 30.5 team points.
Melba High School girls placed first with a team score of 135.5 followed closely by Middleton High School in second with 132.1 and Kimberly High School landed in third with 99.1 points.
For the boys, Kimberly High School took first place with 157 points, second went to Middleton High School with 102.5 and Fruitland High School was third with 102.33.
In the 200 meters, Weiser’s Xander Gray placed fifth with a time of 24.02 seconds, a personal best for him.
Brayden Walker and Colton Foster came in third and fourth respectively in the 400 meters. Walker came in with a time of 54.25 seconds and Foster with 54.96 seconds.
In the 4x100 relay the Weiser boys’ team of Ben Briggs, Alex Magana, Colyer Chandler and Colby Walker finished with a time of 48.95 seconds putting them in tenth place.
Weiser took fourth place in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:38.50. Running the 4x200 was Colton Foster, Toren Walker, Alex Magana, and Michael Youngberg. The team of Colton Foster, Toren Walker, Colyer Chandler and Michael Youngberg also came in fourth place for the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:50.83.
Weiser was eighth in the Sprint Medley Relay with a time of 4:30.63. Ben Briggs, Santiago Perez, Ryan Youngberg and Edgar Lazaro ran the relay for Weiser.
Tristan McMahill of Weiser placed eighth for shot put with a throw of 40 feet 5 inches.
Daniel Rodriguez was the only Wolverine to place in the top ten for discus with a tenth-place finish with a distance of 113 feet 10 inches. Xander Gray rounded out the men’s events with a seventh-place finish in the long jump. He jumped 19 feet 3 inches.
Weiser varsity women had a strong showing for the day with several top five finishes. In the 100 meters, Kailee Larew tied Hannah Baird of Kimberly for sixth place with a time of 13.49 seconds, a personal best for Larew. She also took first in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.24.
In the 200 meters, Mattie Shirts took third with 27.58 seconds.
Kylee Quinton came in first for the 800 meters and third in the 1600 meters. Her times were 2:21.86 for the 800 and 5:45.28 in the 1600.
For the 100-meter hurdles, Weiser’s Sarah Henderson came in tenth with 20.49 seconds. Kylee Quinton took fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.46 seconds.
Weiser took seventh place in the 4x100 relay with the team of Madilyn Wilkins, Ashlyn Walker, Shayla Kelley and Sarah Sotelo. Their time was 56.43 seconds.
A time of 1:54.02 gave the Wolverines fourth place in the 4x200 relay. Running for Weiser was Kailee Larew, Sarah Sotelo, Kamryn Doty and Mattie Shirts.
In the 4x400 Kailee Larew, Kylee Quinton, Sarah Henderson and Mattie Shirts ended in first place with a time of 4:16.99.
Weiser varsity girls were third in the Sprint Medley Relay. Sarah Henderson, Shayla Kelley, Sarah Sotelo and Callee Foster ran the race in 2:07.57.
The Wolverines had one girl in the top ten for shot put, Elle Eames in tenth with a throw of 27 feet 2 inches.
Matlin Wolery came in fifth in discus with a throw of 91 feet 9 inches and Whitney Turner took tenth with a distance of 80 feet 3 inches.
Weiser took seventh in the women’s high jump, Kamryn Doty with a jump of 4 feet 4 inches.
Faith Cannon tied for ninth in the pole vault with a height of 6 feet. Ashlyn Walker took tenth in the long jump with 14 feet 5 inches.
Junior Mattie Shirts took third in the triple jump to finish out the scoring for Weiser. She had a jump of 34 feet 4 inches.
The Wolverines next meet will be April 21 here in Weiser.
