Rehearsals, coordination efforts already underway at the historic Star Theater in Weiser

The Illustrious Onion Skin Players are kicking into gear in 2023, with its production of “The Veggie Villain, or … He Had a Steak in It,” which opens Saturday, March 4.

Though about four weeks away, cast and crew are already holding rehearsals at the historic Star Theater in downtown Weiser. Open auditions were held in December.
Tickets are $12 each or $10 for the matinee. Prices are $14 and $12 at the door. Evening shows are March 4, 8, 10, 11, 15, 17, and 18, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and performance beginning at 7:30 p.m. each night.
Sunday Matinees are March 5 and 12, with doors opening at 2 p.m. and performance at 2:30 p.m.
The Illustrious Onion Skin Players, a Weiser-based nonprofit theatre troupe, has been delighting audiences since 1985 with its 1890s-style melodramas that are described as, “Old-fashioned family entertainment complete with olio’s and Can-Can girls.”
Here is a partial synopsis of this year’s play:
“Loaded with pun after pun, you’ll be laughing ’til the cows come home in this hysterical ‘mellerdrammer!’
“When the Texas Rangers start to clamp down on cattle rustlers, arch villain Artie Choke and his partner Barry Smelly decide they’ll rustle cattle the honest way — by inheriting the largest herd. Of course, this means Artie must woo and wed the owner of the herd, vegetarian Mary Nated, and then dispose of her. Unfortunately for him, Texas Ranger Chuck Roast has caught Mary’s eye instead.”
 Directors, cast, and crew include:
Director Patsy Jo McMichaels, Olio Director Lisa Meyer, Technical Director Mark Doramus, Sound Director Dan Dykema, Choreographer Alicia Fowler, Secretary Pam Lakey, Joni Ball, Jordan Childs, Michelle Chinn Cannon, Kim Cox, Chelsie Dugan, John Eavenson, Debby Enright, Brianne Garner, Terena Haylett, Kati Higgins, Christy J. Higgins, Lance Marcus, Michelle Marcus, Sydney McClary, Francy Pack, Regan Pack, Bobby Post, Adrianna Rivers Kenney, Linda Shaw, Steve Shaw, Crystal Skaggs, Candy Snyder, Lucinda Sutherland, Brittne Swearingen, and Megan Wilson.
