Lady Wolverines clean up at WTP tournnament

Climbing out of a two run deficit against the Nampa Bulldogs, Weiser’s Wolverine varsity softball team notched eight runs in the top of the fifth to defeat the Nampa team 11-5 Friday morning, March 25. The game was the first of four wins for the Lady Wolverines over two days.
 On the mound for Weiser, Whitney Cordes pitched six innings, recording 7 strikeouts and allowing 8 hits. She threw 81 total pitches in the game, including 53 strikes.
 With two outs, Weiser got on the board with one run in the top of the second inning when Mecarte Olsen singled on a hard ground ball to center field, sending Taylor Bushong home from second base.
 Hannah Swank was in scoring position on third base in the top of the third inning, when Cordes singled to first base on a bunt, and Swank made it home. Cordes was replaced on base by Abi Wilkins, and the next at bat, Tobie Noyer doubled on a fly ball to right field, scoring Wilkins.
 The Wolverines staggered defensively in the bottom of the third, allowing the Bulldogs five runs in the half inning.
 After a dry fourth inning for both teams, Weiser’s bats got hot. At the top of the lineup, Ivy Morris tripled, followed by another Cordes single on a bunt, putting the Wolverines down by one run at 4-5. T. Noyer stepped up to hit a homerun, scoring courtesy runner Macy Maloney and herself, and taking back the lead 6-5.
 With a pair of outs, Paisley Noyer singled, followed by a double fly ball to center field from Grace Swank that sent Noyer across home. Olsen singled, sending Swank in, and then, H. Swank tripled to left field, scoring Olsen.
 Morris hit a triple to left field, scoring H. Swank, and Cordes singled on a ground ball to short, while Morris ran home, putting the Wolverines up 11-5. Four Bulldog batters into the bottom of the fifth ended the inning. A repeat of that scenario in both halves of the sixth ended the game with Weiser claiming the win.

Gooding Senators 2
 In another late game scoring streak, the Wolverines left the Gooding Senators in the dust Friday afternoon. The game was tied up at two each after the first inning, remaining there until the top of the fourth. Weiser’s A. Wilkins singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run and putting Weiser in a 3-2 lead.
 T. Noyer pitched the full six innings for the Wolverines, allowing four hits and striking out 11.
 The Wolverines scored three in the top of the fifth. T. Noyer tripled on a line drive to left, scoring a run. H. Swank sacrificed and reached on an error by the Senators pitcher. Swank advanced to third on the same error, while courtesy runner Rylee Roberts scored. T. Bushong sacrificed to first, scoring Swank.
 The Wolverines scored three more in the top of the sixth. G. Swank doubled on a fly ball to center field, scoring Wilkins. T. Noyer tripled on a fly ball to center, scoring Cordes. Roberts relieved Noyer at third, and H. Swank hit a fly ball to center, advancing to third on fielding errors and scoring Roberts.
 T. Noyer recorded two RBIs, and she, Cordes, and Wilkins each led with two hits.
Weiser Wolverines 9, 
Sugar-Salem Diggers 3
 The Wolverines turned 15 hits into nine runs in a game against Sugar-Salem’s Diggers Saturday morning, March 26.
 On the rubber for Weiser, Paisley Noyer pitched seven innings, allowing four hits, and striking out five. She threw 63 strikes among a total of 99 pitches.
 Cordes was on third after hitting a triple on a line drive to right field in the first inning, when T. Noyer tripled similarly to center, scoring Cordes. Just before Weiser’s third out, Noyer scored on a passed ball, putting the Wolverines up 2-0.
 The Wolverines added three to their score in the fourth, two on a two-run homer by Taylor Bushong. Olsen singled on a line drive to center field, while P. Noyer scored on the throw. The Diggers put one run on the board in the bottom of the inning.
 Weiser added one run in each of the next two innings, while Sugar-Salem struggled for traction.
 In the top of the seventh inning, P. Noyer doubled on a line drive to left, scoring Bushong. Olsen hit a ground ball, reaching first base on an error, while P. Noyer scored.
 The Diggers added two in the bottom of the inning, with the Wolverines snagging their third win of the tournament, 9-3.
 Several Weiser players had multiple hits, T. Noyer and P. Noyer leading with 3 each, and Cordes, Wilkins, Bushong, and Olsen with 2 apiece.
Weiser Wolverines 21, 
Madison Bobcats 5
 The Wolverines scored 21 runs on 19 hits in their fourth game of the WTP Tournament Saturday afternoon, defeating the Madison Bobcats 21-5.
 T. Noyer led the Wolverines with four hits in five at bats, a single in the first, a double in the second, and homeruns in each of the fourth and fifth innings. Morris, Wilkins, and P. Noyer each had three hits; Maloney with two; and, Cordes, Bushong, Olsen, and G. Swank each with one.
 Weiser scored six runs in the top of the first inning, three before the first out, and another three before the second out.
 On the mound, T. Noyer struck out two Bobcats, and snagged a grounder, throwing it to Olsen at first for the third out in the bottom half of the inning.
 After two outs in the top of the second, T. Noyer added a run on an error by the Madison shortstop, while Maloney advanced to second on the same error. In the next at bat, Wilkins hit an inside-the-park two-run homerun, putting the Wolverines up 9-0.
 The Wolverines notched another eight runs in the fifth, propelled by a triple-run home run by T. Noyer. 
 The Bobcats made a run at the Wolverines in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits and four walks.
