Deadline to apply for superintendent job in Cambridge School District is Jan. 11

The deadline to submit application materials for the position of Cambridge School District superintendent is this Friday, Jan. 11.
The Idaho School Boards Association was hired by the Cambridge school board to direct the search for a superintendent/high school principal to replace Ed Schumacher, who is leaving the top job at the end of the current school year.
The initial interviews with applicants for the position will start on Jan. 25, according to the current timeline. The ISBA plans to announce the short lists of finalists on Jan 31.
A community meet and greet with the finalist is scheduled for Feb. 15. The Cambridge School District trustees will choose the superintendent on or before Feb. 19.
In the rural district, which has an enrollment of 131 students, the superintendent also serves as the principal for grades six through 12. The superintendent will oversee the special education program and federal programs.
The required academic credentials for the position include a master’s degree or higher, along with an Idaho administrative credential with a superintendent endorsement or the eligiblity to get the endorsement. Experience in federal programs, budget and finance, curriculum and instruction, and leadership roles is required.
Among the lengthy list of job duties mentioned in the job posting, the superintendent works with the school board to provide leadership in all areas of curriculum and instruction, assessment, professional development and data analysis.
The superintendent also is involved in creating and administering the district’s annual budget. The general fund budget for the district in fiscal year 2018-19 is $1.9 million. The total district budget, including all funds, is $2.97 million. The district has 20 certificated staff members and 13 support personnel.
The school board will offer a competitive compensation package including a salary range of not less than $80,000 and benefits to the successful candidate, according to the  ISBA job announcement.
Schumacher said he told district trustees a year ago he would not seek to renew his contract as superintendent at the end of the current school year.
In his resignation letter delivered to the school board last September, Schumacher said working for the Cambridge School District for the past 11 years has been the most enjoyable part of his four decades in education.
Schumacher plans to return to teaching or counseling when his contract is up at the end of the current school year in June of 2019. He has served as the superintendent in Cambridge since 2007.
At a special meeting of the Cambridge School Board in September the decision was made to hire the ISBA for $8,500 to do the marketing and a full search for a new superintenent. The cost is reimbursable through school board training funding from the state.
