A single-vehicle crash on Highway 95 has claimed the life of a Weiser woman.
Jean M. Hawk, 66, was traveling north on Thursday, just before noon, when she reportedly veered off the roadway, just south of Sunnyside Road, over-corrected, and rolled her vehicle. Hawk was ejected from the vehicle and was taken by Life Flight to a Boise hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Next of kin has been notified.
According to Washington County Sheriff Chief Deputy, Brady Johnston, the rollover occurred at approximately 11:55 a.m. The crash site is adjacent to the Imagination Station nursery school on the east side of the highway.
"When first responders arrived on the scene, it was determined that it was a single vehicle, single occupant rollover crash," Johnston told the Weiser Signal American. "It was determined that the female driver was ejected. First aid was rendered on scene until Weiser Ambulance could get there. The victim was Life Flighted from the scene. We were informed a short time later that she had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead."
Witnesses reported to law enforcement that the vehicle had veered off the road and that the driver over-corrected, causing the vehicle to roll multiple times and come to rest in a field south of Sunnyside road.
Johnston said an investigation into what caused the vehicle to leave the road is ongoing.
"She was wearing a seat belt, but she wasn't wearing it properly," He added.
Weiser City Police, the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the Weiser Rural Fire Department, and Washington County Paramedics responded to the incident.
