Fall officially begins next Monday with shorter days on tap and a forecasted high temperature in the seasonable mid-70s.
The 95 degrees in Weiser last Sunday was an abberation from the norm and likely the last of the hot temperatures for 2019.
With the arrival of a cold front and rain on Monday, high temperatures through Thursday are forecast to be in the mid-60s, a drop of nearly 40 degrees from last Sunday.
A gradual warming trend should bump up the temperatures into the mid-70s by early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS lists the average first freeze date for the west end of the Treasure Valley. Based on the averages, the first freeze of fall, which is 32 degrees or colder, usually arrives around Oct. 12.

The first hard freeze, when the temperature drops to 28 degrees, typically happens by Oct. 20-25 in this part of the Treasure Valley
The first really hard freeze, which is described by the NWS as 24 degrees or colder, usually happens in early November.
Looking way ahead, the Farmers Almanac has released its 2019-2020 winter weather outlook. The extended forecast is calling for a freezing, frigid and frosty winter for two-thirds of the country.
The worst of the cold winter conditions will affect areas east of the Rockies all the way to the Appalachians. The coldest weather will arrive in January, the Farmers Almanac says.
The Pacific Northwest, including Idaho, will have chilly temperatures but normal precipitation, according to the Almanac.
