City to roll out program for residents to pay bills online

This last weekend was a time of reflection, meeting with old friends, and enjoying the fact of making it this far in life.
Cathy’s high school class met for a reunion on Friday and Saturday evenings, and again on Sunday at noon.
Cathy and I both graduated from Parma, but Cathy was a year ahead of me. Although Cathy outclassed me, both socially and in years, I probably felt as comfortable with her class as I did with mine.  Catching up on the good times and disappointments in life with people you have known since you were a kid and meeting their spouses or significant others is so satisfying.
One of the best parts of the weekend for Cathy was being able to see and talk with her best friend from growing up. Cathy had not been able to contact this friend since just after their graduation. The weekend was worth it just for the two of them getting together.
In City news this week, the street department is busy with laying asphalt in places where homeowner’s have replaced curb and gutter or laid a new driveway. Whenever curb and gutter or a driveway is replaced, the City cuts the asphalt away from the concrete to make a sharp edge in the asphalt and a clean patch-back when finished.
With the number of places that made improvements this year, the lack of asphalt availability, and issues with the City’s asphalt truck, now that we can lay asphalt, the street department has been kept very busy the last couple of weeks.
In addition, the street department, along with the parks employees, are busy getting the football field in Memorial Park ready for the first home game. Goal posts, bleachers, and fencing are being put up to prepare for the season.
The game will be against Buhl at 7 p.m.  So, come on out to support the Weiser Wolverines in the first game of the season. Go Wolverines!
In addition, the cross country team will be holding a meet at Rolling Hills Golf Course on Wednesday, Aug. 31. Cross country is a sport that requires a lot of pain and therefore a great deal of dedication to achieve results. My hat goes off to young people who pursue this sport! Good luck with your season!
When you go to the meet, please do not park on the north side of Indianhead across from the cemetery.  Parking on both sides of Indianhead can cause congestion for emergency vehicles, so please park on the cemetery side of the road.
Also, I wanted to give you a heads up on a new service the City will soon be making available to you.  Sometime in the next couple of months, you will be able to pay your City utility bills online. The City will experiment with the program using the City employees as guinea pigs first to make sure everyone involved is familiar with the program before rolling it out to you. The target date is somewhere around Sept. 30.
The system will allow you to have options both in receiving and paying your bill. Payment options would include everything from paying a single payment online, to automatically having a level-pay payment, to having whatever that month’s payment amount automatically deducted from your bank account.  The system is flexible to allow you to customize the program to your needs.
Bringing this system to you has been about a year in the making and the City is excited to be able to soon roll it out to you. So be watching your bill and the City’s website for more information.
Well, that’s it for this week. See you at the game Friday!
