The City of Cambridge will host a town hall meeting regarding the Hercules Silver Corporation’s planned mining project on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. within the Washington County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall located at 115 E. Central Blvd. in Cambridge.
The project comprises 10,000 acres located within Washington County on Cuddy Mountain, located about 50 miles northwest of Cambridge, east of Highway 71, and 27 miles west of Council.
Specifics about the project are not available at this time. However, the town hall meeting is intended to provide detailed information and to answer the public’s questions.
The meeting will be led by Hercules Silver Corp. Vice President of Exploration Christopher Longton who has a BSc in Geology.
He is an accomplished geologist with over 15 years’ experience from exploration to production on precious and base metals deposits, according to his online biography. He has experience managing large-scale projects, most recently as the senior exploration manager for Integra Resources’ Delamar project in southern Idaho.
“Hercules Silver will be here and give a presentation and try to answer questions since there are lots of rumors going around on different things, so they will try to address those,” Cambridge City Clerk Sandra McKee told the Signal American on Monday. “It might be a pretty big thing for Washington County, eventually, if it goes through.”
McKee said the company has identified deposits of not only silver, but copper, manganese, and at least one other precious metal or chemical element.
According to the company’s online investor presentation, the value of the surface mineralization comes primarily from silver and copper, but also lead and zinc.
Naturally, questions abound regarding the project, such as start date and duration, mining techniques (open pit or underground), economic and environmental impacts, traffic routes, vehicle numbers and frequency, impacts on roads, effects on local recreation activities and wildlife, safety practices, and post project remediation, among others.
Canadian owned Hercules Silver Corp., which acquired the Hercules Silver Project, “is a junior mining company focused on the exploration and development of the 100 percent-owned Hercules Silver project,
