Butch Emert

Ronald Lee “Butch” Emert, was born July 7, 1943, in Weiser, Idaho, the son of Buster and Zella (Cox) Emert. He was the fifth son born into the Emert family, and the next to last child of the nine born to Bus and Zell.
 He was raised in Weiser
graduating from Weiser High School where he was a standout in football, basketball, and track.
Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force, and served in the 1877 Communications Squadron (AFCC) for 20 years, retiring from McCord Air Base in January of 1983 with the rank of TSGT.
While serving a hitch in Montana, Butch met the daughter of John and Laura Harrington and on July 25, 1966 he and Patricia (Pat) Harrington were married.
Butch’s service included two tours in South Korea, an extended tour in Hawaii, and assignments to bases in Montana, Washington, and Mt. Home Air Base in Idaho.
Butch fell in love early with the game of golf, and played with gusto on courses wherever he was stationed. The people he met on the golf course became some of his dearest friends, and he happily recounted his encounters with some rather impressive people.
Butch and Pat retired to Boise, Idaho, enjoying extended family and many new friends while there. In 1993 Pat was stricken with ovarian cancer from which she did not recover. In June of 1994 she passed away.
Butch returned to Weiser where he lived out the next 25 years of his life. He took a great interest in the community and the schools, volunteering as a score keeper, or timer at the Junior High activities, and Weiser football games. He also volunteered taking tickets at the Fiddle Contest every year.
The highlight of his year was when the golf course lost its winter snow, and he could get back out on the greens.
He worked for a few years as a groundskeeper, and played as often as the course allowed.
He soon discovered the fellowship of the local Elks Lodge, and was able to serve in that organization as a brother, and as an officer.
On Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at ten minutes after twelve Butch’s ailing heart finally gave out. He was surrounded by his family and two of his dear friends.
 Rest in peace, dear brother.
Butch is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Frank Stirm (June) of Weiser, Mrs. Arthur Shoemaker (Sandra) of Nampa, and one brother, Mr. Dale Emert of Weiser. Also, many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday, Jan. 24 at the Weiser Nazarene Church at 2 p.m.
