Barbara Ann Garrett

Barbara Ann Garrett, 79, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018 with her family beside her.
Barbara was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Christmas Day in 1938.  She was raised in Los Angeles but loved the summers she spent as a cowgirl for her uncle’s ranch near Magdalena, New Mexico.
While on the student council at then New Mexico A&M, she met James (Dick) Garrett and they married in 1959.
After Dick graduated from Washington State University in 1967, they moved to Reno, Nev., where they raised their four children.
Barbara was most often a homemaker and mother but was also an excellent typist and secretary, especially skilled at typing and editing research theses. Some of her favorite jobs were working for florists, as Barbara was an avid and die-hard gardener and horticulturist. Her greenhouse sweet peas were purchased for many years by Sparks Florist.
In 2001, Dick and Barbara first attended the National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest and fell in love with Weiser, Idaho. They relocated in 2005 to enjoy small town life.
The entire state of Idaho was a venue for her to play and jam with her fiddler friends. Barbara was also an accomplished pianist and she especially enjoyed, and was proficient, at sewing, quilting, and bridge.
Barbara was married almost 60 years to the love of her life. They were exceptional role models to their four children, their spouses, ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Her family will miss her dearly.
Barbara’s family is very grateful for the loving support from the Weiser community. Please donate to the Hope House in Marsing in lieu of flowers.
We would love for you to view the Hope House website at https://ahome2come2.com.
A service in honor of Barbara will be held on Dec. 28, 2018 at Weiser Church of the Nazarene at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will follow.
