Appreciative shout-out to the Weiser community

Dear Editor:
This year’s Scouting for Food event collected over 2,600 pounds of donated food items. The grocery bags were delivered to WICAP for distribution to those in need in our community.
Assisting Weiser Scout Troop 350 were volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that helped the food bag pick up on Saturday, Nov. 8. Also, the volunteers at WICAP  received the avalanche of bags that needed to be weighed and placed on shelves; Michael Pratt, Sadie Lewis, Connie Bell, and Anna Brown, WICAP director.
This is the 37th year that Scouts have organized the annual event in Weiser to gather food products for those in need. Scouting continues to provide numerous community services. Since the Boy and Girl Scouts don’t ask for recognition, you may not be aware of what they do. Over the decades, many service projects and Eagle Service Projects have left their mark. Service is one of the main tenants of the Scouting Program; along with leadership, an appreciation of the outdoors, learning to work with others, self-confidence, ethics, the need to stay physically fit, learn a variety of skills, interact with adults that are not family or teachers, explore hobbies, and learn to set goals. And, have fun.
Scouting in Weiser has a long history of teaching values and responsibilities to our young boys and girls, Scouting now needs the assistance of our community. We are looking for boys and girls that want to have fun while learning lifelong skills. We would like to discuss Scouting with both parents and their children. If you know of anyone that might be interested, please call me.
