After final play loss in first game, Wolverines win on runaway scoring spree in second

Taking another trip to the Magic Valley for a doubleheader with the Buhl Indians on Saturday, April 9, Weiser’s varsity Wolverines softball team went down 9-7 in the first game on a walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning. 
 Tied at 6-6 after three innings in the second game, Weiser scored 10 runs over the next three to win handily, 16-6.
Game 1
 Buhl took a 4-run lead in the first inning of game one. 
 The Wolverines scored one run in each of the second and third innings, adding two in the fifth to tie the game at 4-4. Both teams scored a run in the sixth to remain tied, and Weiser pulled ahead in the top half of the seventh for a short-lived 7-5 lead.
 Buhl loaded the bases on two singles and a fielder’s choice in the first three at-bats in the bottom of the inning. Fourth at bat, J. Ambrose homered on a line drive to left field, scoring four runs for the 9-7 win.
 Paisley Noyer started Weiser’s scoring in the second inning, with a single to short, sending Abi Wilkins home after she had gotten on base on a walk and stolen her way to third. 
 In the third inning, Ivy Morris singled on a fly ball, advanced to third on a throw in the next at-bat, and scored on a passed ball for Weiser’s second run.
 In the top of the fifth, with Mecarte Olsen on base, Tobie Noyer homered on a line-drive to center field to tie the score. P. Noyer was on base in the sixth when a fielding error put Grace Swank on first and opened the door for Noyer to score.
 Whitney Cordes singled to first in the seventh, and T. Noyer batted next, hitting her second home run of the game to move into the brief 7-5 lead.
 Cordes was in the circle for the Wolverines, throwing four strikeouts and allowing 11 hits. Morris, Cordes, T. Noyer, and P. Noyer all went 2-for-4 at the plate, and T. Noyer led with 4 RBIs.
Game 2
 Buhl led by five runs at the end of the first inning, but Weiser responded with five in the top of the second. Both teams added one run each in the third, and then Weiser’s bats and daring offense took over.
 With one out, T. Noyer singled on the third pitch, then stole second between pitches on the next at-bat. Wilkins singled on a hard ground ball to center, scoring Noyer. Coming to the plate with two outs, P. Noyer doubled on a fly ball to left, scoring Wilkins. Annabelle Mattson hit a single to center, sending Noyer home for a 9-5 lead.
 In the top half of the fifth, Olsen got on base on an error and was advanced to third on a double line drive to center by Morris. T. Noyer singled on a line drive to center, scoring Olsen and Morris.
 Wilkins singled on a fly ball to left, putting two on base. On the first pitch, G. Swank homered on a line drive to left field, notching three runs.
 With one out and Morris and Cordes on base in the top of the sixth, Wilkins scored both of them on a double fly ball to left field for the 16-6 final.
 P. Noyer pitched all six innings, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits, and throwing 7 strikeouts. Wilkins led at the plate, going 4-for-5. T. Noyer led with 6 RBIs, with Wilkins and Swank at 3 each, and Morris, P. Noyer, Mattson and Olsen with one apiece.
 Weiser’s junior varsity met the Buhl Indians in Weiser on Saturday, taking a 12-15 loss in the first game, and a 23-5 win in the second.
 In the first game, Hannah Samson pitched two innings, allowing 9 runs on 5 hits, and striking out 4. Marley Widner pitched four, throwing 7 strikeouts, and allowing 6 runs on 6 hits.
 Samson and Jordan Campbell led with five RBIs each in game 2. They, along with Jessie Cantrell, Alexa Lunstrum, and Jordan Stromberg led with three hits apiece.
 Aryssa Aburto was in the circle for the Wolverines, throwing 9 strikeouts and allowing 5 runs on 6 hits.
