City Council clears path for multi-home subdivision in Weiser

 The Weiser City Council on Oct. 12 approved annexation of an 8.6-acre parcel of land located on the east side of West 9th St., south of the Galloway Canal.
 The Council also designated the property as B-1 residential.
 Barrow Design and Construction (BDC) sought annexation ahead of plans for a 36- to 38-home subdivision slated for construction in summer 2022.
 Owner Bob Barrow said the subdivision will feature quality homes in the $400,000 range.

Liberty Quartet

Liberty Quartet to perform in Cambridge

Holiday Arts and Craft Show

 The Holiday Arts and Crafts Show co-hosted by the Four County Art Guild and Friends of the Library will be held Friday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Vendome Events Center, 309 State Street.

Erickson’s stitching featured at upcoming arts & crafts show

 Cindy Erickson of Middle Valley Stitching will be selling her work at the Weiser Friends of the Library and Four County Art Guild Arts and Craft show.
 Erickson, who has a background in commercial embroidery in both Oregon and Idaho, started her own home embroidery business in 2020.

Idaho law to create new commodity in 2022

 State law has long prohibited cultivation, transportation, or use of hemp or any cannabis related products in Idaho.
 House Bill 126, however, lays the groundwork for farmers to take advantage of hemp as a commodity crop in time for the 2022 planting season.
 In a Sept. 27 update, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture reported it has submitted its required state hemp plan to the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is waiting for approval to open the licensing process to potential growers.

Loenberg sees bright future for soccer in Weiser

 The Weiser girls’ soccer team was eliminated from district play last week with a double-overtime loss on the road against McCall, ending the season.
 Despite the loss, the Wolverines, who ended with a 7-8 overall record, came out ahead, according to head coach Trine Loenberg who said it was never about win-loss records.
 “We ended the season fantastic as a team,” she said. “The girls made huge improvements.”

Weiser boys advance at District with 6-1 win over Payette

 The Wolverines varsity boys’ soccer team recorded a 6-1 victory over Payette Tuesday, Oct. 12, knocking the Pirates out of the 3A District III tournament.
 Weiser mounted a quick offensive attack from the opening whistle, scoring the first goal when junior forward Alex Magana received a high pass from senior halfback Edgar Torres in front of the goal, heading the ball down and past Payette goalie Oscar Nunez inside the first minute of play.

Weiser High School to present ‘Headless Horseman’

 Weiser High School’s Musical Theater class proudly presents the Halloween-themed musical “The Headless Horseman” Tuesday, Oct. 26 and Wednesday, Oct. 27. The play, to be held at the Weiser High School auditorium, begins at 7 p.m. both nights.

Bravo realizes dream of owning his own gym

 Kevin Bravo is the type of guy who always knew what he wanted.
 In 2019, at the age of 21, he opened his own workout facility, Beyond Barbell Gym, realizing the goal he set while still in high school.
 Most entrepreneurs start small, and Bravo was no exception, his first location was only 100 square-feet. At that size, he quickly ran out of room.
 Moving forward took a leap of faith.
 Believing his clientele would continue to grow, Bravo eventually moved to his current location at 315 W. 2nd St. in Weiser.

Weiser drops heart-breaker to Homedale

 It was the game of the week in the Treasure Valley, the Weiser football team traveling to Homedale Oct. 15 in a fight for first place in conference play.
 Both teams went into the game with 7-0 overall and 3-0 conference records.
 As expected, it was a hard-fought game that ended with the Trojans besting the Wolverines 14-6.
