Spooktacular

The Illustrious Onion Skinn Players are proud to present Spooktacular. A haunted house inside the Hystoric Star Theater. Cost is $5. Spooktacular will be Oct. 26 and 27 from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Oct. 31from 8 p.m. to Midnight.

10 cross country runners going to state

The Weiser varsity girls cross country team and two individual runners on the boys team qualified for state after putting in some top performances at the SRV District tournament on Thursday.
 Weiser senior Abbey Shirts blazed the 5,000-meter course at Mann Farms outside of Parma. She finished in first place and achieved a new personal record with a time of 19 minutes, 17 seconds.
 Shirts crossed the finish line  15 seconds ahead of her biggest rival this season, Fruitland’s Emma Hillam, who took second place with a time of 19:32.14.

Weiser’s season ends with loss to Homedale

A loss to the Parma Panthers in the first round of district play pitted the Lady Wolverines against the Homedale Trojans in the consolation bracket.  
 With a 3A state tournament berth on the line, both teams were on a mission to avoid elimination from the District tournament.

Weiser girls come up short at 3A state tourney

The SRV District 3A soccer champions Lady Wolverines traveled to Twin Falls for state tournament that started Thursday, Oct. 18. They played three matches over three days. They walked away from the tournament with one win and two losses.
Game 1 vs Sugar-Salem 
 “Sugar-Salem was undefeated coming into this game Thursday, so we knew this would be a great opportunity to compete right away,” coach Bernie Weldon said. 
 Sugar-Salem had only been scored on twice all season, and that it would be a tough game from the start for Weiser.

Weiser battles Parma in round one of district tourney

There was no time for the Lady Wolverines to bask in their impressive sweep of the Payette Pirates in the play-in game because the win only secured a place in the actual bracket play of the tournament, which meant the Wolverines would have only a couple hours to regroup and face the No. 1 team, Parma Panthers, in the first round.

Tri-Valley Titans fall to Salmon River 44-14

The last home game for the Titans began by paying tribute to the team’s eight seniors, Larry Bodnar, Michael Carpenter, Jason Damon, Jayden Mink, Tayden Murray, Cody Nixon, Orion Southwick and Reed Thulander.  
 After honors were served the men lined up to receive the Salmon River kick-off. The Titan defense started off with a bang when Michael Carpenter forced a Savage fumble and it was recovered by Reed Thulander.  

Weiser volleyball makes short work of Payette

The Lady Wolverines participated in the 2018 Snake River Valley Conference Volleyball Tournament at Payette High School last week.  
 Due to a disappointing win-loss record during the regular season and ending the season in fourth- place, which was not indicative of the talent on this year’s Lady Wolverine volleyball team, the Wolverines were forced to participate in a play-in game against the fifth-place Payette Pirates.  

You’re never too old to trick or treat

There was a recent discussion in the community about what age is too old to dress up and go out trick or treating on Halloween.
 Tradition has dictated that the beginning of the teen years and adolescence was getting a little old to go out into the cold and dark night in search of sugary sweets.
 I’m changing my mind on that notion based on a pretty good point someone made. Why not let teens dress up and go out trick or treating? They could watch out for the little kids and stay out of trouble.

Halloween celebrations are about upon us. Please remember as the events take place to watch for little trick-or-treaters dashing across streets and yards.  
 Saturday, Oct. 27, there will be a Trunk-or-Treat at Carlena’s Tattoo on State Street from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the Star Theater will have the haunted house going on Friday and Saturday. Drive carefully in these areas especially.
